Five teams. Forty people. One goal: make every sprint count.

When teams are busy but not delivering, the problem is rarely effort; it’s focus. At Republic Services, the task was to shift five Agile teams from measuring activity to measuring value. The results came quickly.

What was needed
Five Agile teams whose performance struggled to match business expectations. Teams were completing work, but not necessarily the work that mattered most. The organisation needed someone to close the gap between team output and business value, fast.
What I did
Coached and mentored all five teams with a deliberate focus on shifting the measure of success from tasks completed to business value delivered. Provided targeted coaching on individual roles and responsibilities to sharpen accountability and cross-team collaboration. Realigned sprint planning and commitment practices to what the business actually needed.
What it meant
  • One team’s delivery velocity increased by 54% by doing more of the right work, not just more work
  • Sprint commitment certainty improved from 62% to 85% across all teams
  • Teams became more accountable, more collaborative, and more focused on outcomes over activity
